FAQs
Can it power 120V and 240V appliances at the same time?
Yes. The VolTrust V-US-10kW provides 120/240V split-phase pure sine wave output for compatible household appliances. Its 10kW rating is the combined output, not 10kW per 120V leg. The manual separately lists 7.2kW in single-phase mode; this should not be treated as a confirmed per-leg rating in split-phase mode.
Can it back up my home and run air conditioning, a well pump, or an EV charger?
It can support these applications when the complete system is correctly sized. The inverter provides 10kW continuous split-phase output and lists 15kVA peak power in split-phase mode. Check the combined running load, motor starting demand, and battery discharge capability. High-demand appliances may need to run at different times or use a reduced charging setting.
Which batteries are compatible, and does BMS communication matter?
The inverter supports compatible lithium batteries and 48V lead-acid battery banks. The specification table lists 51.2V nominal battery input, a 40–58.6V operating range, and a 44V minimum starting voltage. For lithium batteries, confirm the exact battery model, supported BMS protocol, communication cable, and settings. Matching voltage alone does not establish compatibility.
How many batteries do I need, and how long will backup power last?
Size the bank for both usable energy and continuous and peak discharge current. At 51.2V, supplying 10kW requires about 195A before inverter losses, so a single battery with a 100A BMS cannot provide full rated output alone. As a planning example, 10kWh of usable energy divided by a 2kW average load equals 5 hours before conversion losses and inverter consumption.
How many solar panels can I connect?
The GES48100M220-500P supports two independent MPPTs, up to 6,000W per MPPT, and 22A per input. The MPPT range is 90–450V, and maximum PV open-circuit voltage is 500V. Panel count depends on panel voltage, current, string arrangement, and cold-weather open-circuit voltage. The 12kW PV input allowance does not increase the 10kW AC output rating.
What happens during a power outage? Can it operate without batteries?
With compatible battery storage and correctly connected backup circuits, the inverter can supply backup loads during an outage. The manual lists a typical 10ms transfer time between bypass and inverter operation. It also supports solar and utility operation without a battery, but that provides no stored energy for an outage. Include battery storage for dependable backup operation.
Can I use a generator to power loads and charge batteries?
Yes. A compatible generator can supply the AC input to power loads and charge batteries. Match its voltage, frequency, and phase configuration to the installation, and size it for load demand plus battery charging. Utility and generator power use the same AC-input connection and need appropriate source selection. Do not assume a 120V-only generator can support the required 120/240V split-phase arrangement.
Can solar and utility power charge the batteries together?
Yes. Charging modes include Solar Only, Utility Priority, Solar Priority, and Solar + Utility. For the M220-500P configuration, maximum AC charging is 120A, maximum PV charging is 220A, and combined charging is limited to 220A total. These limits are not additive. Charging settings must also stay within the battery bank and BMS limits.
Can it use solar power without sending surplus energy to the grid?
The manual describes CT-based anti-feed-in and self-consumption operation, with two CT sensors for the split-phase lines. CT sensing is identified as an optional configuration, so confirm that your unit has the function and matching sensors. Correct installation and commissioning are required. Anti-feed-in control does not establish utility approval or guarantee zero transient export.
Does it provide 200A pass-through for a whole-home panel?
No. This model is not specified for 200A pass-through. The manual lists 60A per leg under maximum bypass phase overload current, with a separate 63A bypass breaker specification. A 200A household service does not mean the inverter can carry the full service current. Plan the backup circuits and bypass arrangement around the exact equipment ratings.
Can I expand the system with additional inverters?
Yes. The GES48100M220-500P supports up to six compatible units in parallel. Use matching units, compatible firmware, the required communication connections, and suitably sized battery storage. The version without the P suffix does not support parallel operation. The manual limits the parallel function to off-grid applications.
Can I monitor solar production and battery status from my phone?
Yes, with a compatible Wi-Fi module, supported monitoring service, and network connection. The pictured app shows energy flow, battery status, household consumption, device management, and energy reports. Available functions depend on the connected hardware and software. Confirm whether the Wi-Fi module is included in your selected package.
Where can it be installed, and will the cooling fans be audible?
Choose a dry, well-ventilated location with a sturdy, non-combustible mounting surface and the required clearances. The unit measures 24.41 × 17.72 × 5.20 inches and weighs 23.5kg / 51.81 lb. It uses variable-speed fans, with noise listed at ≤60dB. Its operating range is 14–131°F, with power derating above 113°F. The lifestyle image does not establish a weatherproof rating.
What protections are built in?
Built-in functions include overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, output short-circuit, overtemperature, and PV reverse-polarity protection. PV reverse-polarity protection applies to the solar input; a reversed battery connection can blow the internal fuse. Built-in safeguards work alongside the external disconnects and protective devices required for the installation.
What is included in the package?
The package image shows the inverter, product manual, inspection certificate, service card, Wi-Fi module, parallel communication cable, dust filters, two CT sensors, and mounting hardware. Included accessories depend on the selected package. Check the final accessory list for your configuration before ordering.
Can I schedule charging and discharging for different times of day?
Yes. The manual supports scheduled battery charging and discharging periods, allowing operation to be planned around solar availability and electricity tariffs. Match the settings to the operating mode, battery limits, and desired backup reserve. Actual savings depend on your tariff, energy use, solar production, and battery losses.
Can I connect an existing microinverter or grid-tied solar system to it?
The manual describes DC solar strings connected to the MPPT inputs. It does not establish support for AC-coupling an existing microinverter or grid-tied inverter to the backup output. Do not assume an existing AC solar system can charge the battery or continue operating during an outage. Obtain a manufacturer-confirmed system design for that application.
Is this model approved for selling electricity back to the grid?
The manual's parallel-operation section warns that the corresponding grid-connection approval is not provided and limits that function to off-grid use. The listed UL1741 and CSA references do not independently establish utility-export approval for this exact product. Plan it as a backup/off-grid solution; for net metering or utility export, choose equipment with verified approval for the intended installation.
