For RV use, calculate the daily energy needed by lights, pumps, refrigeration, electronics and inverter-powered appliances. For marine use, confirm the trolling motor voltage and maximum current draw.
Should I choose a 12V or 36V lithium battery?
Choose a 12.8V model for compatible 12V RV house systems, onboard electronics and other 12V deep-cycle applications. Choose a 38.4V model for a compatible 36V trolling motor. The battery voltage must match the connected equipment and charging system.
How much battery capacity do I need for my RV?
List each appliance's wattage and estimated daily operating time, then add the watt-hours together. Include DC loads and inverter losses, and leave a practical reserve for weather, longer stays and unexpected use. Higher-capacity batteries are generally better suited to refrigeration, inverters and extended off-grid camping.
How long will a lithium trolling motor battery run?
Estimated runtime in hours is approximately usable amp-hours divided by average motor current in amps. Actual runtime changes with thrust level, boat weight, wind, current, weeds, propeller condition and other connected loads. Full-speed operation consumes substantially more energy than lower-speed positioning.
Can these marine batteries start an outboard engine?
Do not use a deep-cycle battery for engine starting unless the exact product is specifically rated for starting service and provides the required CCA or MCA rating. The batteries in this collection should be selected for compatible trolling motors, RV house loads and onboard deep-cycle applications unless the product page states otherwise.
Can one battery power both a trolling motor and marine electronics?
It may be possible when voltage, capacity and current ratings are suitable, but a trolling motor can create voltage drops and electrical noise that affect sonar or chartplotters. Separate batteries or independently fused circuits can provide cleaner power for sensitive electronics. Follow the equipment manufacturers' wiring requirements.
Can I use my existing lead-acid or AGM charger?
Only use it if it has a compatible LiFePO4 charging profile that matches the battery voltage and charging limits. Equalization, desulfation and temperature-compensation modes intended for lead-acid batteries should not be used. An approved LiFePO4 charger is the recommended choice.
Can I charge the battery from an RV or boat alternator?
Do not connect the battery to an unregulated alternator. Alternator charging normally requires a correctly sized DC-to-DC charger or another approved charging solution to regulate voltage and current while protecting the alternator and battery. Confirm the design with a qualified installer.
Can VolTrust batteries be connected in series or parallel?
The 12.8V models in this collection support up to four batteries in series or parallel when installed according to the applicable manual. The 38.4V models may be connected in parallel but must not be connected in series. Use matching batteries with closely matched voltage and follow all cable, fuse and breaker requirements.
Can I charge these batteries in cold weather?
The models in this collection include low-temperature charging protection and automatic internal heating. During charging, heating activates below 41°F (5°C) and stops when cell temperature reaches 59°F (15°C). Charging is disabled below 23°F (-5°C) and resumes after the battery rises above 32°F (0°C).
Are VolTrust marine and RV batteries waterproof?
The manuals describe these batteries as water resistant, not waterproof. Install the battery in a dry, secure location away from standing water, direct rain and spray. Do not immerse the battery or pressure-wash the case, terminals or connectors.
Can I use the battery in a saltwater environment?
A protected marine installation may be used in a saltwater environment, but salt and moisture can corrode terminals and connections. Keep the battery dry, use suitable marine-grade cables and sealed lugs, protect exposed connections and inspect the installation regularly.
What does the built-in BMS protect against?
The battery management system helps protect against high voltage, low voltage, excessive current, short circuit and temperature-related conditions. How should I store the battery during the off-season?
Charge the battery to at least 50%, disconnect charging and electrical loads, and store it in a dry location within the specified temperature range. Check the battery and recharge as required approximately every three months. Do not store it fully discharged.
